Can I bring an Apple Macbook to Carolina? |
|
You can bring any laptop that meets or exceeds the minimum laptop specifications for your class. You can configure a Macbook to meet or exceed these specifications. However, there are some considerations you should keep in mind when making this choice. The vast majority of students on campus will have a laptop running Windows (approx 9 out of 10 will have a CCI model laptop) and our support resources are primarily aimed at students using laptops running Windows. By choosing to bring an Apple laptop you will be opting out of the highest level of computer support available on campus. The campus help desk (ITRC) does help students with Apple laptops where possible but there may be times where you will need to provide your own support. Additionally, faculty may choose to use software in their classes that does not have an Apple version. Examples of this are occurring less and less frequently each year but do still occur. If this is the case you may have to figure out another way to complete your coursework or drop the course. We encourage you to make an informed decision about which laptop to bring, so if you need additional information please contact us. |
